DR. ALFONSO CURIEL ESQUIVEL
The senior Dr. Curiel is one of the most experienced ophthalmologists in Mexicali. He is a graduate of the prestigious UNAM University where he chose to study ophthalmology because he wanted to provide relief for patients, both children and adults. Since sight is the most valued sense we have, he wanted the opportunity to restore sight to people who had lost it.
Dr. Curiel strongly believes that ethics should be at the core of medical services. That’s why he pays personal attention to the quality of the service at his clinic. He is committed to ensuring that each patient is treated well. He decided to establish his clinic in Mexico because the operating costs here are a third of what they would be in the United States, allowing him to offer competitive prices and therefore to reach and help more patients, while maintaining high quality standards.
As you might expect from a physician who has practiced for many years and treated thousands of patients, Dr. Curiel can tell hundreds of stories of countless patients he has helped. For example, he recalls the time he treated a 3-year-old child with congenital cataracts. Dr. Curiel was able to help the child achieve practically normal vision and after the treatment, the child hugged him gratefully. Today, that child is a fully-grown adult and considerably larger than Dr. Curiel, yet he still hugs his doctor every time he sees him. Experiences such as these bring great satisfaction to Dr. Curiel after having practiced ophthalmology successfully for over 40 years.
In his free time, Dr. Curiel practices golf and bowling. He proudly holds the record of performing the first perfect game in Mexicali, back in 1991.

DR. MARIANO CURIEL
Dr. Mariano Curiel is an ophthalmic surgeon that followed the steps of his father, Dr. Alfonso Curiel, and works with him at the Curiel Vision Center. In addition to being an ophthalmologist, Dr. Curiel studied a specialty in cornea, anterior segment and refractive surgery at the University of California at San Diego.

Dr. Mariano Curiel was born into the world of medicine. His grandfather was a doctor too, a gynecologist to be exact. He remembers wanting to grow up to be a doctor since he was 13-years-old and how clear he was that he wanted to become an ophthalmologist. Belonging to the most recent generation of doctors, he recognizes the importance of specializing and continuing his studies.

Dr. Curiel’s knowledge and experience in ophthalmology doesn’t prevent him from understanding that he and his clinic are in a marketplace. He knows that his service has to be unique. That’s why the Curiel Vision Center offers more than its years of experience in the industry. He also invests in the training of his administrative and operational staff. Curiel Vision Center offers an atmosphere of warm hospitality as well as cutting-edge technology and strongly believes in the continuous development of his team as well as increasing his own knowledge in order to provide both a comfortable and up-to-date experience for his patients.

Dr. Curiel feels it is very rewarding to be an eye surgeon. It is especially satisfying to restore sight to someone who had lost all or most of it. He recalls the grandfather that was able to see his grandchildren for the first time, the patient who was able to live independently again, and the individual he treated who was able to go back to work. For him, these experiences are priceless and the primary reason he enjoys his work so much.

Dr. Curiel and his clinic have performed over 10,000 procedures, noting that every single patient has been treated as a valuable patient and friend.
